Summer is the time for attending endless music festivals and concerts. I myself tend to get so wrapped up in the actual experience of watching my all-time favorite musicians and bands perform live that I forget to bring basic essentials with me that ensure I have a responsible, safe, and fun time. I will admit that sometimes, seeing your beloved bands, singers, rappers, and dj’s can be a disappointment.

Whether it is they seem to not be giving it their all, maybe they are lip-syncing, or sometimes you might end up with terrible seats, nonetheless you are seeing people you truly enjoy listening to so you need to make sure that nothing comes in the way of you relishing  and appreciating your experience of a lifetime.  Whatever the reason is, I learned to just make the best of every concert situation and with the basic essentials that I consider a must-have, it will allow you to to better make the most of every situation. The following are your must haves when you’re going to see your favorite band or artist!

 1. Cash

I’m one of those people that prefer using my debit cards but I can guarantee you that with any type of concert out there, it is just easier carrying cash! ATM machines will be around but the lines will most likely be ridiculously long, so having cash creates less stress and more time not worrying about money. It is one the worst feelings out there when you are just a couple of dollars short for something like parking, especially for a concert when you just desire to get in there and start the show but instead you need to scatter up a few dollars.

Also, you might even wind up spending less. For myself and many others, there is something about handing over several ten physical dollar bills that hurts more that handling over a debit card. Likewise, I have paid more closely attention to my spending habits when carrying around cash. Again, I think it is because that I will physically start out with a certain amount then see how much of it I have spent throughout the days or week.

2. Digital Camera

This is especially great for any vloggers out there. A concert or music festival will have the perfect moments to capture and this way you won’t be heavily relying on your phone so you can conserve your battery and use it strictly for communication and social media updating.

3. Cross-body Purse

I can’t stress the importance of having a cross-body purse when going to a concert! Unfortunately a lot of stealing occurs during concerts. You have your wallet or purse in your seat and when you’re standing up enjoying the acts someone can just swipe it from you without you even realizing before it’s too late! I’ve also heard of wallets getting snatched right out of back pockets! Cross body purses are a safe way to have your belongings on you yet be hands free and able to move around freely.

Comfort is a key factor in going to a summer concert. Since you will be generally carrying this around the entire day or night, you want to feel as much ease as you can reliving your back of any further strain that comes with a normal purse or backpack.

4. A Charged Phone

Now this may sound obvious but when going to a concert, you really need to conserve your battery as much as possible, especially if the concert is general admission and/or outside. It can be very easy to get accidentally separated from your group so when everyone’s phones are charged, things will be much easier.

Ways to make your battery life stretch for hours include dimming your brightness down to as far as it can go. Also, I learned that Bluetooth can essentially drain a great chuck of your battery life and drop your percentage of fully charged from one hundred percent to something like forty percent in just two hours. Making sure that your Bluetooth connection is disabled will save you the trouble of frantically looking for a portable charger when you really would want to enjoy your concert experience.

 5. Snacks

Granola bars are my favorite on-the-go snacks because they are very compact and not messy to eat. You will find out that snacks come in handy when you’re already well into the concert but you don’t want to buy any expensive food. Snacks like these will hold you over without breaking your bank.

It allows our cravings to be curved just for enough amount of time for us to continue enjoying ourselves maybe rocking out to Paramore or rapping every lyric to a Wiz Khalifa song. Moreover, eating small, yet recurrent snacks help keep our metabolism regulated working as fast as ever. In addition to that, when on your feet for a while, snacks contribute to allowing our blood sugar levels not to drop a large distant between meals.

6. Water

Staying hydrated whether the concert is indoors or outdoors is a must! You will be surprised by how many people at concerts pass out due to dehydration. Everyone has been standing up for so long and waiting in long lines and these conditions only worsen when you have not been drinking and adequate amount of water.

To go even further as to why remaining hydrated through a concert is important listen to this. By now many know that the human body is made up of over seventy percent of water. There really is no such thing as drinking too much water, therefore constantly staying hydrated allows our bodily functions such as our muscle functions, immune system, digestion, and brain to properly function at their best quality.

There are ample amount of healthy reasons why we as humans should remain hydrated every day. Some of my favorite include weight loss, skin elasticity, a positive and progressive mood, and one of the most important in terms of going to a concert, temperature control. Being mixed in a crowd of hundreds of people and more even if you are indoors calls our bodies to sweat because we are overheating. Since sweat is our bodies’ way of cooling themselves down, drinking water and remaining hydrated allows our bodies to be replenished with a good water supply.
